February is American Heart Month, and to celebrate CVS Health is offering ‘Know Your Numbers’ heart health screenings in their MinuteClinic every Thursday in February, including Valentine's Day. Best of all… it’s free! You can visit your local CVS MinuteClinic on February 6, 13, and 20 and receive a no-cost heart health preventive screening to learn the five key personal health numbers that can help determine your risk for heart disease: total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, blood pressure, blood sugar and body mass index. Heart disease is the nation’s leading cause of death, in both men and women. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented, yet most people don't know the important personal health data that is critical to determining your risk. “Understanding what’s currently happening in your body is the first step to making healthy changes,” says Kate Grooms, Chief Engagement Officer at Grooms Benefit Solutions. “Once you recognize your personal benchmark, it’s all about management and prevention. There are most definitely risk factors beyond your control - family history, race, age – but there are so many things you can control that will lower your risk. Get out and move more. Make smart food choices. Try and reduce stress. Believe it or not, these changes can make a big difference.” Having your personal information is key to understanding your current risk. To receive a free ‘Know Your Numbers’ screening, you can download a voucher from CVS here. Then make an appointment, or simply walk into your local MinuteClinic for a 20-minute screening. No insurance is needed, and there is no cost to you. “American Heart Month is a huge wellness initiative, for our employees and our clients,” says Grooms. “So many of us are doing whatever we can – awareness campaigns, challenges, free resources – to help make people more conscious of the fact that the daily choices they make have a huge impact on their health and heart.” For more information on developing health awareness campaigns, creating engagement through communication, or designing employee benefit education strategies, you can reach out to Kate here, or at the link below.
